Overall:
I decided to visit the oxford after i read the write up in the sunday times and decided to visit the website to check out the menu, it sounded so mouth watering i decided to go for lunch today.
We were seated promptly by the friendliest and well dressed waiter i had seen in a long time, it was a bit chilly inside as they didnt have the fire going but it was clean and crisp with white table cloths and trendy chairs, nice to look at, the restaurant mixed old and new very well.
The menu sounded delicious, not a lot to choose from but it is a pub after all. we started with a dips to share, the bread was plentiful for two people and toasted nicely and was accompanied by three dips, all tasty but obviously bought in and not home made, and some feta and seedless olives (not sure about those, they are not real olives if they dont have the seed, and they could have done with some marinating). But overall it was fast and tasty.
Before we were served our mains our side plates and cutlery and napkins were changed, a big plus at any venue and we were also given water on arrival, i believe this should be the standard at any restaurant.
I had the Rogers Beer Beef pie and it was delicious, real chunks of meat, with chunky garlic and onions on mash potato with a deliciously thick homemade gravy, didnt quite like the mint sauce on the top for garnish. It was large enough that i had to really squeeze it in. Too full to even try a dessert or coffee.
My friend had the rabbit ragout with risoni, it was a large serve, piping hot and presented nicely. The only fault it could have done with more flavouring, but still good enough to eat.
Overall, the music was good, the waiter excellent, the standard of food was good enough to go back for which i cannot say about many of the places i have gone to.
