Sorry I can't help you Tom, I just wanted to say that I want to know this too! I used to frequent Emperor's Court, but I hear it changed hands and my experience the last 2 times wasn't up to par. Joy Gardens on Francis St. is supposed to be pretty good as is the restaurant at Burswood. I've tried them once each and liked both but need repeat visits to judge properly. Shun Fung on the River was pretty good too and has nice views.

Jambo.

Tried the chilli squid at Good Fortune for lunch today (Searching for a Hoi's replacement...).

Unfortunately, it wasn't up to par. Tenticles too large, too chewy, not enough of them...

Had a couple of other dishes as well, but was generally unimpressed by whole experience.

Will keep looking though...

G'day SteveH

It would appear that we share a passion :D

Yours is the third negative review I've read about Good Fortune, so I think I'll steer clear.

We must keep searching.

Cheers

Jambo

Good Forune on Cambridge St - Terrible service and really expensive
I quite like the squid there - and the food is quite fresh but the waiters are so unhelpful and grum,py i only go there when too hungover to battle the parking in Northbridge.

I discovered Dragon Seafood on James St last sunday and that is my new favourite!!! They have a few different dumplings there, squid was good and service fine!

Other favourites are Joy Garden on Francis St and the one on James st accross the road from the Brass Monkey i forget its name. . . .

I LOVE DIM SUM!

my 2 top picks after trying all (except yummy bbq in myaree) dim sum restos:
1) joy garden on francis st, northbridge
*a pleaser for most of its dishes
*authentic and consistent food quality

2) foo gwai, canning highway, applecross
*a recent discovery
*egg tarts and squid tentacles are a must try
*went on a weekday once and was disappointed. felt food was better on the weekends.
